I want your souls

We like the mechanic of having to harvest a special reagent for some spells. We don’t even think the spells are a big problem, with the possible exception of summoning a lot of people (and we are working on an idea for that last part).

Where shards really fall down IMHO is in the inventory management. We want them to be limited, but the way we handle that now feels a little old school, like inventory Tetris in Diablo. We do have a few ideas on how we want to fix it, but obviously I don’t have a big announcement to make on the subject yet or I would have made it already.

Yes, there may yet be hope for the ever so in-your-face soul shard management.

In other news, I haven’t actually tried out my new deep affliction spec. I hardly count chain-pulling a level 66-67 underground tomb a certified way of determining its effectiveness. However, from what I can tell so far, Haunt seems like a most welcome spell to the affliction tree’s arsenal. In one occasion I had it heal me for roughly 1300 HP — Yes, please!

I can almost see myself trying out arena and dedicated PVP with Taash come level 80 because of this talent. It’s like a reworked version of Lifebloom only it does damage to a foe instead of healing to a friend, but the dispell mechanic is the same: dispell Haunt and the warlock gets healed vs. dispell LB and its target gets healed. Yet another spell that dispellers have to think twice about dispelling! I like it.

Did I mention the new spell animations to Drain Life, Drain Mana and Drain Soul?! They look awesome. I actually had fun grinding some shards last night ’cause of that reason alone. I was also trying to get a good screenshot of my UI as it looks like now:

It’s based on Caith’s UI and uses its kgpanels and pitbull setup, only it’s been reworked to fit my resolution (which I can’t remember what it is, silly me) and tweaked here and there. On a slightly other note, as I was fixing all this I was logged in on my druid, and as such, there is no frame for my little demon setup yet. Oh noes! Another note, my buffs and debuffs addon doesn’t support ButtonFacade yet, which is why my buffs’ borders look ugly.

1337 Shadow

Found this one as I was browsing through my WoW screenshots folder:

Like the fact that SW:D hit me for 1337 damage wasn’t enough: I’d just been resurrected  — Resurrection Rank 1, I might add — by this SP in Gurubashi Arena. I’d just sat down to drink and eat up, and said SP leaves our party and throws his DOT spells on me. I instinctively HOT myself up, run away from the arena floor and hope he’s not doing more to hurt me. Alas, this SP claims he wasn’t aware he was pressing his SW:D keybinding (or something else equally silly). Lies, I tell you, lies! It was all planned out! The result? I died from a 1337 SW:D.

The most fun death I ever experienced on my druid so far, I think. :P

Slow connection

Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to have an internet connection but be unable to connect to MSN, Skype or any web-based messenger? I’ll tell you: it is very frustrating. It would take me around 40 minutes to download MSN Live Messenger. Meebo.com would load halfway and then just load, load and load without anything happening. It’s a bloody nasty slow connection we got here at this IT school. They should be ashamed.

I’m currently enduring a two hour long Physics class. Can’t you tell I’m a very good student … ?

P.S. It took me a good five minutes to load the “Write Post” page … o_O

Edit: Even worse! I’m stuck with using IE 7 because it would take ages to download Firefox :( At least I got tabs … *runs away at the thought of using IE*

Pet peeve

I see dumb peopleIt seems as though summer has arrived. It’s warm outside, the sun is shining and people are walking carelessly in the city core. That’s one of my pet peeves: people who can’t seem to walk straight forward and are unable to give some kind of hint that they’re going to either stop moving or take a sudden turn. It’s one of the reasons, if not the reason, I don’t like summers. It really bugs me, because summer isn’t so bad — except for the heat that makes me unable to sleep at night. Argh.

Funny story: M gets an SMS from an unknown person claiming he saw her eat at Burger King just some moments ago. She tells him no, he’s got the wrong number. He doesn’t believe her and he says he’ll prove it by calling her in 20 minutes from now. Even after being told M’s full name, he still thought she was lying. After a few more text messages between them he realizes that yes, he’s got the wrong number. Such a dimwit.

It’s a matter of decision now: study biology or play some WoW. Hmm …

Lo and behold!

There is something peculiar about being back on the blogging scene — well, at least standing at the far back in the backstage area. I find it necessary though for two reasons: 1) My writing skills aren’t as good as they could be and 2) there are times when I have something to say. Alright, it may not happen all that often that I have something important to say, but this gives me a place to bitch and flame and simply laugh my ass off at different things and people. I expect I’ll be writing quite a bit of “World of Warcraft” related entries, considering it’s one of the few things that I devote any precious time to. Or any time at all, really …

This weekend, to my own surprise, I went to the movies and I watched The Spiderwick Chronicles. It’s a rather entertaining movie, although it’s far from superior to The Chronicles of Narnia. Freddie Highmore was the definitive highlight, he portrayed the two brothers brilliantly. (Then again, I barely know anything of acting. In fact, I know nothing of it.)

What kept the movie alive was the story and the slight “suspense” that came with it, I simply had to find out what was going to happen to that field guide! The bad guys are laughable: fat little goblins that bleed green slime and a giant called Mulgarath who is even more laughable. He wasn’t scary or intimidating. He. Just. Was. The special effects were rather neat though, thankfully.

I could flame and bitch about the sister’s fencing skills that were nowhere to be seen, but I’ll refrain from doing so as it will only make me feel disappointed again. Damn …

All in all: Enjoyable. Nothing more, nothing less.

What I’m really looking forward to though is The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian ! I got shivers all over my shoulders and thighs watching the trailer! Oh, the music, the glory, the adventure, the heroism! Let me experience that life, damn it!
